How it works

Three minutes to a personalized plan

A short setup wizard asks just enough to make everything relevant. Then it stays out of the way while your student works through it.

01
Answer 7 setup questions

Name, graduation year, state, major, financial context. The app looks up your state's scholarship program automatically and builds everything from there.

02
Get a personalized dashboard

A month-by-month timeline from summer of junior year through Decision Day — with tasks tailored to your state, whether you're an athlete, and when you plan to file FAFSA.

03
Track schools, prompts & progress

Score and compare schools, copy pre-built AI prompts that include your student's profile, and save research as you go. Everything lives in one file on your computer.

Features

Everything in one place,
nothing you don't need

Month-by-month timeline

Every task from summer of junior year through May of graduation. State-specific deadlines (FFAA for Florida, UC Application for California, ApplyTexas, etc.) injected automatically.

School tracker with scoring

Track up to 20+ schools with custom scoring criteria. Sort by fit score, cost, or status. Import school data straight from a ChatGPT or Claude response.

8 pre-built AI prompts

Research a school, find schools, decode an aid letter, prep for a campus visit, explore majors. Every prompt is pre-filled with your student's profile — just copy and paste.

Student profile tracker

GPA, every SAT/ACT sitting with automatic superscoring, service hours tracked against scholarship thresholds, activities, major, and career direction. One page, always current.

State scholarship guide

Detailed profiles for 10 states at launch — FL, CA, TX, NY, GA, NC, MI, IL, OH, PA. Each includes tier requirements, deadlines, and gotchas, injected directly into the Process Guide.

Notes & research vault

Free-form scratch pad for anything without a home. Plus a link library: save AI chat URLs, articles, and school research so nothing falls through the cracks.

"The single biggest mistake families make is treating financial aid as something that happens after acceptance. By then, key deadlines have already passed."

Questions

Before you buy

What exactly is this? How does it work?

PlanMyCollege is a single HTML file — like a webpage, but one that lives on your computer instead of on the internet. You open it in any browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). The first time you open it, a setup wizard asks 7 questions. After that, everything is personalized. Nothing is stored online. No account. Nothing to install.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere but your own device. The app uses your browser's localStorage. Everything stays on the computer you use. You can export a backup JSON file anytime. There is no server. We cannot see your data.

My student's state isn't in the list — will it still be useful?

Yes. The timeline, school tracker, AI prompts, process guide, and all other features work for any state. New states will be added in updates, which are free to anyone who purchased.

Is this for parents or students?

Both — the setup wizard asks who's setting it up. The app is designed to be used together: parent tracks the calendar, student fills in the profile and scores schools. There's no "right" way to divide the work.

What are the AI prompts? Do I need a paid AI subscription?

The prompts are pre-written templates that pull in your student's profile data and format them for ChatGPT or Claude. The free versions of ChatGPT and Claude work fine for most prompts.

What if I want a refund?

Reach out within 30 days and we'll make it right. No hoops.
